Our heroes have feet of clay, and so do the charismatic leaders who build cults. On this #ParanormalTuesday, Mike and Wendy take a sobering look at some of the world's deadliest cults and the psychology that draws people in.
They begin with Peoples Temple, where audio recordings of the final moments at Jonestown still exist, a chilling reminder of where extreme belief can lead. They also discuss Heaven's Gate and how the sunk cost fallacy keeps people committed long after the warning signs appear. Mike illustrates it with the story of a van Sunspot bought in 2003 that turned out to be a lemon.
The darkest story of the night belongs to Adolfo Constanzo, born in Miami and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, who became a drug dealer and cult leader whose crimes became known as the Matamoros killings. Mike also shares something he learned while developing a Puerto Rico ghost tour: alongside the island's hauntings and legends, there's a tradition of brujería. The hosts even touch on the cult-like aspects of Tiger King, plus Charles Manson.
It's a heavy topic, handled with the honesty, curiosity, and dark humor you'd expect from See You On The Other Side.
