It was way back in May 1823 when a steamship chugged up the mighty Mississippi River and moored, for the first time, at the Mdewakanton Sioux settlement of Red Wing. In the decades that followed, trade and tourism transformed the tribal land into a thriving town, and plans for the St. James Hotel were drawn up to give weary visitors a place to lay their heads. But when laborers were digging out the foundations, the discovery of skeletal remains in a burial ground was a stark reminder of the town’s Native American heritage.
Ever since then, St. James Hotel has been the epicenter of Red Wing’s paranormal mysteries. Tales are told of phantom floating heads emerging from the darkness, mysterious noises in the bowels of the basement, and the domineering presence of deceased owner, Clara Lillyblad.

Built in 1904 by Annie Sheldon, the wife of a local business leader, the Sheldon Theatre takes pride of place at the heart of the Red Wing community. Annie was, by all accounts, quite the force of nature, and even in death her presence can still be felt around the grand auditorium.
Much more than a traditional sports bar, the Home Plate Grill & Dugout Lounge offers upscale food as well as live music. But if you know musicians, you know that they are often reluctant to leave the stage, even after death. Learn how this new establishment has been conjuring some interesting hauntings in this historic building.
Colonel William Colvill is Minnesota’s best-known Civil War hero, remembered for commanding the First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment. His story is inextricably linked to the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg, with heroic tales of fierce fighting, valor, and bravery.
Red Wing's most notoriously haunted building, this grand old hotel has been welcoming guests to Red Wing for over a hundred years. Stories abound of creepy goings-on, unexplained cold spots, and ghostly whispers.

We focus on building exteriors and outdoor spaces. Businesses and public places are open for you to visit during regular business hours. Otherwise we respect the privacy of individuals and organizations and expect that our guests do the same.
We can never guarantee a supernatural encounter, but we will explain paranormal phenomena such as cold spots and residual hauntings. What we do guarantee: Our local connections and dedication to research means you'll get authentic accounts — in all their shocking detail.
Service animals are welcome. However, for liability issues, please leave your furry friends at home if you don’t require their assistance.
While our tours do not contain anything too graphic or inappropriate, we find that kids that enjoy history have the best time. You know your children and that's left up to you. We do not recommend bringing children in strollers because sometimes that can be difficult with larger walking groups.
We do our best to answer calls and emails as promptly as they are received. Please make sure to leave a voicemail with the city and tourtime. We try to accommodate travel and weather issues, but our public tours cannot wait for more than 10 minutes. Reschedules are available if the date you are interested in is not sold out.
Because this is a limited capacity tour, all sales are final. If we cancel the tour because of weather or another event, we offer a full refund.
We will do our best to accommodate rescheduling requests, but cannot guarantee changes because other tours and dates might be sold out. As a courtesy, we offer an add-on called Peek Protect which will refund your tickets if you have an emergency and cancel your reservations at least 24 hours prior to the tour beginning, but we cannot make any adjustments to those reservations, those are ordered through a third-party and any changes will need to be processed through them.
Explore haunted locations and hear chilling tales. Face your fears and uncover dark secrets. Join us, if you dare!
